Work trip note
One night, one meeting at The Star Grand Brisbane
For a short Brisbane trip, the aim is to reduce decisions. You need a room that fits the meeting day, a dinner setting that does not require crossing town, and a departure plan that respects the first flight out. The Star Grand puts those pieces inside the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct, with the Sky Deck and Event Centre close at hand.

Before you book: keep the brief tight
Start with the meeting, then build the stay around it. The Star Grand is the hotel within The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane. The published count is 340 rooms, with room categories listed as City King Room, City Accessible Room, City Twin Room, River King Room and River Accessible Room. Suites published by the hotel are City Suite, River Suite, Skyline City Suite and Skyline Penthouse Suite.
For a one-night stay, the request should not read like a leisure enquiry. Send the date, arrival window, departure window, number of travellers, room category preference and whether the bill needs company details. If a guest has an accessibility requirement, ask for the relevant accessible category at the same time. If two colleagues are sharing a booking but not a room, say so early and ask for separate rooms rather than trying to fix it after check-in.
Check-in is published as 3:00 PM and check-out as 11:00 AM, with express check-out on request. If your meeting starts before the room is likely to be ready, plan the first hour as luggage drop and laptop time rather than assuming early access. For more on the categories, see the site’s rooms page before sending a request.
Arrival: use the address and do not invent the transfer
The published address is 33 William Street, Brisbane City, Queensland 4000. Valet access is via the porte cochere at 33 William Street. The Star Brisbane car park has entrances on William Street, Queen’s Wharf Road and Margaret Street, is open 24/7 subject to availability, and does not accept vehicles over 2.1m. The venue publishes parking rates and conditions on its own site, including hotel-guest, casual, Early Bird and Weekend flat-rate information, so check the current official page rather than relying on copied figures.
For airport movement, the resort does not publish an airport distance or transfer time in the facts available here. Brisbane Airport, Airtrain, taxis and rideshare can still be used in the normal way, but you should check official timetables and allow the margin your meeting requires. This site’s airport and Airtrain guide keeps that part deliberately practical: use live transport information, not a fixed travel time repeated from elsewhere.
If you arrive by train or ferry, the precinct information names Roma Street, Central and South Brisbane stations as within walking distance, and North Quay ferry stop or terminal as a short walk. Brisbane’s Uptown bus hub is also described as a short walk. For a one-night trip, choose the mode that gives the lowest risk for the appointment, not the lowest theoretical fare.
The room: set it up for the next morning
Once the room is available, treat the first 20 minutes as preparation for departure. The hotel publishes 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out, so the overnight stay needs a clean exit plan. Put the meeting clothes, charger, ID and travel document where they can be checked once, not searched for at the door. If express check-out matters, ask the hotel about it before the morning.
The Star Grand facilities include Isoletto Pool Club on Level 7, exclusive to Star Grand guests, with three heated pools overlooking the Brisbane River, sauna, steam room, indoor gymnasium and pool bar. The venue notice says the facilities are now open. That is useful if your arrival is early enough to reset before dinner, but do not plan around it if the work schedule is tight. The trip is still a one-meeting trip, not a facilities inspection.
For the room request, avoid vague wording. A City King Room, City Twin Room or River King Room request is clearer than asking for a “nice room”. If the view matters for a client-facing stay, say River King Room. If the traveller needs twin bedding, say City Twin Room. If access requirements apply, use the published accessible room category names. The hotel’s official page is at star.com.au/brisbane/hotels/the-star-grand-hotel.
The meeting day: keep Queen’s Wharf as the base
If the meeting is in or near the precinct, The Star Brisbane’s published event information matters. The Event Centre is described as having a 1,440 seat ballroom with pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and views to the Story Bridge. The opening release also describes a 3,500sqm Event Centre with the city’s largest hotel ballroom. The official events pages also name Isoletto Pool Club, Sky Deck and Leisure Deck as event venues.
That does not mean every one-night traveller is attending a major event. It means the precinct is set up for meetings, functions and the hotel stay to sit close together. If you are booking for a delegate rather than yourself, send the event name, meeting venue, arrival date, departure date and any requirement to keep colleagues near each other. The meetings and events page sets out the published spaces without adding unpublished capacities.
The Neville Bonner Bridge connects South Bank to the Queen’s Wharf precinct and The Terrace on Level 4. It opened with the first phase on 29 August 2024 and is named after the first Indigenous parliamentarian. For a short break between arrival and dinner, it gives you a direct pedestrian link without turning the evening into a separate transfer plan. Use it as a practical route, not a second itinerary.
Client dinner: use the Sky Deck carefully
The Sky Deck is the obvious dinner candidate when the meeting finishes inside the precinct. It is described by the venue as 100 metres above the CBD, with a 250-metre seemingly suspended rooftop runway listed by the precinct site. Published venues are Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu. Aloria is fine dining with an open kitchen, Babblers is casual all-day dining with flatbreads, and Cicada Blu is a day-to-night bar.
Published Sky Deck hours are Monday to Thursday 6:30am–10:30pm, Friday to Saturday 6:30am–midnight, and Sunday 6:30am–10:30pm. The Sky Deck is weather-dependent. For a client dinner, that matters: keep the booking specific, but have enough flexibility to move within the precinct if weather affects the plan. The broader dining list includes Sokyo, Cucina Regina, Black Hide Steak & Seafood by Gambaro, Dark Shepherd, Fat Noodle and Food Quarter, along with other listed venues.
For a work dinner, decide the tone before choosing the venue. Aloria suits a set-piece dinner. Babblers suits a less formal meal. Cicada Blu suits a drink with a view rather than a full private meeting. The separate Sky Deck and dining guide keeps the venue list and hours in one place. If the dinner involves contracts, sensitive discussions or a strict finish time, say that in the booking request and ask what the venue can confirm.
Early departure: settle the practical items the night before
For an early flight, do not leave transport decisions to the morning. The resort facts available here do not publish airport distance or airport travel time. Check the official Airtrain timetable if you plan to use rail, or arrange a taxi or car with enough buffer for the flight and the weekday you are travelling. If driving, remember the car park’s vehicle height limit is 2.1m and availability is subject to the venue’s conditions.
Use the 11:00 AM published check-out only if your flight allows it. If not, ask for express check-out on request and settle any business invoice details before bed. A clean one-night work stay is usually won or lost at this point: the right name on the bill, the right departure mode, and no missing charger.
The casino is part of the property, but this site treats it as a venue fact, not a reason to travel. The casino is a physical venue and entry is restricted to guests aged 18 years or over with the required ID. For the operator and ownership position, The Star Brisbane is managed and operated by The Star Entertainment Group for a fee, while Destination Brisbane Consortium is owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium since 31 March 2026. If that background matters for procurement, read the casino, factually and the note on who runs The Star Brisbane now.
