Work trip plan
24 hours in Brisbane for a work trip
Use this as a practical one-night plan for Brisbane: arrive, check in when the room is ready, hold the meeting, take a short river reset, use the Sky Deck for dinner, then leave early without turning the stay into a larger exercise. It is built around The Star Grand at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, with transport times left to official timetables and the day’s traffic.

Home / 24 hours in Brisbane
- Arrival
Land and choose the transfer using official timetables or the day’s traffic conditions. Airport distance and time are not published in the checked facts, so do not lock the meeting start to an assumed transfer duration.
- Before 3:00 PM
If you arrive before the published 3:00 PM check-in, treat the hotel as the base and ask in advance what can be confirmed. Send arrival time with the stay request if the first meeting is early.
- Meeting block
Use the Queen’s Wharf address to keep the meeting, accommodation and evening plan close together. The Event Centre is published with a 1,440 seat ballroom, pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and Story Bridge views.
- Late afternoon
Use the river precinct as the reset between meeting and dinner. The Neville Bonner Bridge connects South Bank to Queen’s Wharf and The Terrace on Level 4.
- Dinner
Book the Sky Deck if the client dinner benefits from a clear on-site meeting point. Published Sky Deck venues are Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu, with operation weather-dependent.
- Morning
Leave the room under the published 11:00 AM check-out, or request express check-out in advance. Confirm invoice and account requirements directly with the hotel or booking partner.
- Departure
Check official transport timetables or current road conditions before leaving. The precinct publishes nearby rail, bus, ferry and cycling options, but the facts checked here do not publish airport travel time.
Base the day around Queen’s Wharf
The Star Brisbane sits at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, with The Star Grand hotel at 33 William Street, Brisbane City, Queensland 4000. For a short business stay, the value is practical: one CBD address for the hotel, meeting spaces, dining and the river precinct. The Star Grand publishes 340 rooms, with categories including City King Room, City Twin Room, City Accessible Room, River King Room and River Accessible Room, plus published suite types.
Do not build the day around assumptions about the airport transfer. The official precinct pages name Roma Street, Central and South Brisbane stations as within walking distance, the Uptown bus hub as a short walk, North Quay ferry stop or terminal as a short walk, and the Bicentennial Bikeway with end-of-ride facilities. Airport distance and time are not published in the facts checked for this guide. For flight planning, use the official transport timetable and the carrier schedule, then allow the buffer your employer requires. The separate airport and Airtrain page sets out the transport choices without inventing a fixed journey time.
Check-in at The Star Grand is published as 3:00 PM. Check-out is 11:00 AM, with express check-out on request. If the meeting starts before check-in, send the arrival time with the stay request and ask what the hotel can confirm. The rooms page covers which category to request for a work trip, including accessible categories where relevant.
Meet first, then use the river as the reset
For a one-day meeting, keep the agenda tight and avoid changing venues unless there is a reason. The Star Brisbane’s Event Centre is published with a 1,440 seat ballroom, pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and views to the Story Bridge. The opening release also describes a 3,500sqm Event Centre and says it has the city’s largest hotel ballroom. The resort’s events page also names Isoletto Pool Club, Sky Deck and Leisure Deck as event venues.
If you are booking around a formal conference, use the published event spaces rather than inventing room names. Send delegate numbers, arrival pattern, presentation needs and the preferred hotel-room block. For a fuller event-space note, use meetings and events before you lodge the request.
After the meeting, use the precinct rather than adding another taxi. The Neville Bonner Bridge is a pedestrian bridge connecting South Bank to the Queen’s Wharf precinct and The Terrace on Level 4. It opened with the first phase on 29 August 2024 and is named after the first Indigenous parliamentarian. A short walk over or around the river gives a clean break between the meeting and the evening booking, without relying on another transfer. The wider Queen’s Wharf precinct page covers the bridge, river setting and practical orientation in more detail.
Use Sky Deck for the client dinner
The Sky Deck is the natural dinner anchor for this itinerary because it keeps the client close to the hotel and gives a clear meeting point. The Star publishes the Sky Deck as 100 metres above the CBD, with Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu on the deck. The precinct site describes a 250-metre seemingly suspended rooftop runway, and the opening release refers to a glass bottom observation deck.
For a client dinner, choose the venue by format rather than mood. Aloria is published as fine dining with an open kitchen. Babblers is casual all-day dining with flatbreads. Cicada Blu is a day-to-night bar. The published Sky Deck hours are Monday to Thursday 6:30am–10:30pm, Friday to Saturday 6:30am–midnight, and Sunday 6:30am–10:30pm, with operation weather-dependent. Check the official site before the meeting day, because weather or venue trading changes can affect the plan.
Other published restaurants and bars in The Star Brisbane include Sokyo, Cucina Regina, Black Hide Steak & Seafood by Gambaro, Dark Shepherd, Azteca, LÚC LẮC, Pompette, Fat Noodle, Food Quarter, LiveWire, Sports Bar, Cherry and Lobby Bar. The dining page on the official site should be used for current opening details: star.com.au/brisbane. This site’s Sky Deck and dining guide narrows that list for work dinners.
Checkout and departure without losing the morning
For an early departure, treat the morning as a logistics block, not a second itinerary. The Star Grand publishes check-out as 11:00 AM and says express check-out is on request. If you need to leave before breakfast service, or before colleagues are awake, ask in advance how the hotel wants the account settled and whether a tax invoice can be issued as your company requires. The resort does not publish every account-handling detail in the facts used for this guide.
If you are driving, note the published parking basics rather than assuming access. The Star Brisbane car park is at William Street, with entrances from William Street, Queen’s Wharf Road and Margaret Street. It is open 24/7 subject to availability, has a 2.1m vehicle-height limit, and is card only with a 0.8% surcharge. Valet is via the porte cochere at 33 William Street. Rates are published by the venue and should be checked on the official site before travel.
If you are leaving by train or Airtrain, check official timetables on the day before travel. If you are leaving by taxi or car, allow for CBD traffic and any roadworks notice published by the venue. The aim is simple: settle the bill, leave the room cleanly, and keep the first meeting back at your desk intact.
What changed at this address
This plan uses The Star Brisbane, not the former Treasury casino. Treasury Brisbane casino closed on 25 August 2024, and the staged opening of The Star Brisbane commenced on 29 August 2024. The first phase included the Neville Bonner Bridge, Sky Deck viewing platform, The Star Grand, Event Centre, Levels 5–6 venues, gaming floors and Sokyo. Where older travel notes still point to Treasury as the operating casino, they are out of date for this purpose.
The Treasury Hotel is listed by Queen’s Wharf Brisbane as “coming soon”, with no opening date. Do not book a one-night business plan around it unless the official site has confirmed availability for your dates. For the historical move, use from Treasury to The Star.
Ownership and operation are also specific. Destination Brisbane Consortium is owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited and Far East Consortium International Limited since 31 March 2026. The Star Entertainment Group continues as casino operator under the DBC Casino Management Agreement for a fixed annual fee payable monthly plus performance incentive fees from 1 April 2026. For a hotel stay request, this does not change the practical steps: ask for dates, room type, arrival time, meeting needs and any billing requirements.
