Who this hotel suits
The Star Grand Brisbane is the hotel to consider when your work trip sits around Queen’s Wharf, William Street, the CBD riverfront, South Bank or an event inside the precinct. It is not a remote resort model; it is a business-use hotel inside The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, with restaurants, bars, a casino floor, Sky Deck venues and event facilities in the same precinct.
The working case is straightforward. You can base a one-night trip around an afternoon arrival, a client dinner on the Sky Deck, an overnight room at The Star Grand and an early checkout. For conference weeks, the hotel pairs with published event spaces and the 1,440 seat ballroom noted on the Destination Brisbane Consortium opening-date page. Delegates using the Event Centre can request rooms through the same planning process rather than splitting accommodation away from the venue.
The Star Grand is also practical for mixed CBD and South Bank days. The Neville Bonner Bridge connects South Bank to the Queen’s Wharf precinct and The Star’s The Terrace on Level 4. The precinct publishes nearby rail, bus, ferry and cycling options, although it does not publish an airport distance or airport transfer time. If airport access is the main variable in your schedule, use the official Airtrain timetable and compare it with taxi or rideshare timing before fixing meeting times. The site’s separate airport and Airtrain page keeps that transport decision separate from the hotel review.
Keep expectations factual. The Star Grand publishes room names, check-in and check-out times, pool and gym facilities, restaurants and parking conditions. It does not publish every business traveller detail a corporate booker may want. If you need confirmed bedding, interconnecting arrangements, invoice handling, early arrival, late departure, accessible-room details beyond the room category name, or delegate room blocks, ask before booking.
Arrival, address and first day timing
The published address is 33 William Street, Brisbane City, Queensland 4000. The hotel’s own check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM, with express check-out on request. Valet is via the porte cochere at 33 William Street. If you are driving a company vehicle or arriving in a hire car, check the parking height limit before you set the route; the car park states no vehicles over 2.1m.
For a same-day meeting, the cleanest plan is to treat the 3:00 PM check-in time as the fixed point unless the hotel confirms otherwise. Send arrival time, luggage needs and any early-meeting constraint with your request. Do not assume an early room release. If the meeting runs before check-in, plan around baggage handling and the precinct rather than building the day on an unpublished early-arrival promise.
Public transport information is useful but not exact enough to build a minute-by-minute transfer here. The precinct states that Roma Street, Central and South Brisbane stations are within walking distance; Brisbane’s Uptown bus hub is a short walk; there are numerous bus stops nearby, including the free city loop; North Quay ferry stop or terminal is a short walk; and the Bicentennial Bikeway has end-of-ride facilities. The resort does not publish airport distance or airport time. For airport movements, consult official transport timetables and leave the detailed airport choice to the traveller, executive assistant or travel manager.
For a short Brisbane schedule, keep the arrival day simple. Land, transfer to the CBD, handle the meeting, check in from 3:00 PM, then use the precinct for dinner rather than crossing town. The separate 24 hours in Brisbane plan uses the same constraint: limit transfers, place the client dinner on site, and protect the morning departure.
Rooms and guest facilities
The Star Grand publishes 340 rooms. The opening release describes “340 hotel rooms including four penthouses”, while the hotel page wording is “340 beautifully appointed rooms”. For business purposes, use 340 as the room count. A conflicting 436 figure may appear on an events context page, but the hotel-specific and opening materials support 340 for The Star Grand.
Published room categories are City King Room, City Accessible Room, City Twin Room, River King Room and River Accessible Room. Published suite names are City Suite, River Suite, Skyline City Suite and Skyline Penthouse Suite. That is the useful booking framework. The hotel does not publish, in the facts checked here, every desk, power-point, robe, minibar, view-angle or floor-allocation detail that corporate travellers sometimes request. Treat those as questions for the booking stage.
For solo work travel, start with City King Room or River King Room, then ask about desk suitability, quiet positioning and checkout needs. For two colleagues sharing a room, City Twin Room is the named category to query. For accessibility needs, do not rely only on the category name. City Accessible Room and River Accessible Room are published categories, but the exact bathroom, clearance, shower and device-charging requirements should be confirmed directly with the hotel.
Isoletto Pool Club is listed on Level 7 and is exclusive to Star Grand guests. Published facilities include three heated pools overlooking the Brisbane River, sauna, steam room, indoor gymnasium and pool bar, with a notice that the facilities are now open. No dedicated spa is listed in the facts checked here. The opening release also refers to three hotel pools, including two infinity edged pools and a pool bar, and to a Leisure Deck on Level Seven.
For a deeper category-by-category booking note, use the site’s rooms page. The main rule is to book the published category you need, then put work-specific requirements in writing.
Sky Deck for a client dinner
The Sky Deck is the main on-site dinner advantage for a short business trip. The resort describes it as “soaring 100 metres above the bustling CBD”. The precinct site describes the Sky Deck as a “250-metre seemingly-suspended rooftop runway”, and the opening release refers to a glass bottom observation deck. For business planning, the useful facts are simpler: the Sky Deck has Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu, it is weather-dependent, and it publishes set opening hours.
Those hours are Monday to Thursday 6:30am–10:30pm, Friday to Saturday 6:30am–midnight, and Sunday 6:30am–10:30pm. On Christmas Day, the viewing platform is open, Babblers and Cicada Blu are closed, and access to Aloria is for ticket-holders only. Check the official page close to the date because weather can affect access.
For client hosting, Aloria is the formal dinner choice in the published venue list: fine dining with an open kitchen. Babblers is casual all-day dining with flatbreads. Cicada Blu is a day-to-night bar. That gives you a practical spread: a scheduled dinner, a less formal meal, or a drink before or after a meeting. Do not build a client itinerary around unpublished private-room details unless the venue confirms them.
Other dining names published by The Star Brisbane include Sokyo, Cucina Regina, Black Hide Steak & Seafood by Gambaro, Dark Shepherd, Azteca, LÚC LẮC, Pompette, Fat Noodle and Food Quarter. Some listings include cuisine descriptions; others do not. Azteca, LÚC LẮC and Pompette have venue notes in the facts but no cuisine stated on the listing used here, so do not over-describe them in an itinerary. Bars listed include Cicada Blu, LiveWire, Sports Bar, Cherry, Lobby Bar and Sundowners, with Sundowners appearing as a Sky Deck menu item and no description in the facts checked.
Use the Sky Deck and dining page when you need a venue-by-venue planning note with the published hours carried across.
Meetings, conferences and event spaces
The published event strength is the Event Centre. Destination Brisbane Consortium’s opening-date page describes a “1,440 seat ballroom with pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and views to the Story Bridge”. The Star opening release describes a “3,500sqm Event Centre boasting the city’s largest hotel ballroom”. Those are the figures to use when assessing a conference or large seated event. A secondary source gives a 1,500-seat ballroom figure, but the more precise 1,440-seat figure from the DBC opening-date page is the safer planning reference.
The events page also names Isoletto Pool Club, Sky Deck and Leisure Deck as event venues. That matters for business groups because the precinct can support different parts of a programme: plenary sessions, dinners, informal gatherings and accommodation. Capacities for every named event setting are not published in the facts supplied here, so a conference enquiry should ask for the current capacity chart, minimum spend or hire terms if relevant, food and beverage options, accessibility access, load-in requirements and accommodation allocation.
For delegate accommodation, ask in one message for dates, arrival waves, twin requirements, accessible rooms, VIP suites, billing rules and cancellation terms. The hotel room count is 340 for The Star Grand, but that does not mean every room is available to one group on any given night. Room blocks, shoulder nights and attrition terms must come from the hotel or booking partner.
The bridge and precinct layout also help a conference week. The Neville Bonner Bridge connects South Bank to Queen’s Wharf and The Terrace on Level 4. If your programme includes CBD meetings and South Bank activity, that pedestrian link can reduce vehicle transfers. Keep the route practical: confirm where delegates should enter, which lift bank or level applies, and whether the meeting point is the Event Centre, The Terrace, Sky Deck or hotel lobby.
The separate meetings and events page sets these spaces out for bookers who need to request rooms around a conference.
Parking, transport and the bridge
The Star Brisbane car park is on William Street, with entrances from William Street, Queen’s Wharf Road and Margaret Street. It is open 24/7 subject to availability. Vehicles over 2.1m are not permitted. The parking page also notes valet at The Star Grand, a hotel-guest flat nightly rate, casual hourly rates, Early Bird and Weekend flat rates, complimentary parking for Gold Members and above with entry and exit using a Membership Card, a 6:00am daily rate reset, card-only payment and a 0.8% surcharge. Rates are deliberately not repeated here because they can change; use the official parking page before travel.
The precinct site also names Car Parks A, B and C: A via left turn from William Street, B from Queen’s Wharf Road, and C via right turn from William Street. A roadworks notice gives an alternate route via the Elizabeth Street off-ramp. If you are booking an executive vehicle, coach or high-clearance work vehicle, confirm the route and clearance before arrival. The facts checked here do not verify coach parking detail beyond the broader precinct references.
The Neville Bonner Bridge is a meaningful business-travel detail, not just a leisure amenity. It is a pedestrian bridge connecting South Bank to the Queen’s Wharf precinct and The Star’s The Terrace on Level 4. It opened with the first phase on 29 August 2024 and is named after the first Indigenous parliamentarian. The opening material described it as the first of an expected 10,000 pedestrian crossings a day.
Because the precinct spans hotel, dining, events and public space, orientation should be part of the booking brief. Tell travellers whether they are going to The Star Grand porte cochere, the Event Centre, The Terrace, the Sky Deck, or a restaurant. If you have interstate delegates, include the official property link in the travel note rather than relying on a map pin alone. The official sites are star.com.au/brisbane and queenswharfbrisbane.com.au.
Casino, ownership and Treasury changeover
The casino is part of the property, but this review treats it as a physical venue fact, not a reason to book. The Star Brisbane states that guests must be aged 18 years or over to enter the Casino. The Star Club requires 18+ with valid photo ID and uses a Membership Card to play, stay and dine. The Star Brisbane operates 24/7, with short closures on Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day as described on the opening-hours page. No table or machine counts are published in the facts checked here. The opening release states that the gaming floors comprise five per cent of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct.
Queensland’s regulator is the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, Department of Justice. The regulator lists The Star Brisbane as operated by Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd. The Star Entertainment Brisbane Operations Pty Ltd appears in the star.com.au/brisbane footer. Australia bans online casino play under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001; this site cannot be used for casino play and should not be read as offering it.
Ownership and operation need precise wording because the position changed. Destination Brisbane Consortium is owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited (CTFE) and Far East Consortium International Limited (FEC) since 31 March 2026, after The Star completed disposal of its 50% interest in DBC to the Joint Venture Partners. The Star continues as casino operator under the DBC Casino Management Agreement for a fixed annual fee of $18 million payable monthly plus performance incentive fees from 1 April 2026. There is no reason to infer a guest-facing hotel change from that statement; use it simply as the current ownership and operator position.
Treasury Brisbane casino closed on 25 August 2024 when gaming moved to Queen’s Wharf. The Treasury Hotel is “coming soon” with no date. For the background chronology, use from Treasury to The Star. For the casino entry and regulator notes only, use the casino, factually.
What is not verified, and the business verdict
Several common booking details are not published in the facts checked for this review. No verified venue phone number is included; use the official site for contact rather than copying numbers from secondary listings. The events email TSBsales@star.com.au is published. The resort pages checked here do not publish an airport distance or airport transfer time. A casino dress standard was not found because the relevant dress-standard and terms-of-entry URLs returned 404 in the source checks. No dedicated spa is listed. Public guest ratings are not included because the facts supplied do not contain a platform, score, count and date.
Some restaurant listings do not state cuisine. Where that is the case, this review names the venue but does not invent a food style. Some hotel details that matter to business travellers, including specific in-room work setup, invoice workflow, account billing and detailed accessible-room specifications, should be confirmed before booking. If your employer needs a tax invoice, purchase order, split billing or a single master account for delegates, ask in writing.
For a one-night stay, The Star Grand works best when the schedule is compact: arrive in Brisbane, attend the CBD or precinct meeting, check in from 3:00 PM, hold dinner on the Sky Deck or elsewhere in the precinct, and check out by 11:00 AM. This reduces transfers and keeps the evening near the room. It is less suitable if your entire workday is airport-side, if you need guaranteed early check-in that has not been confirmed, or if a high-clearance vehicle is essential.
For a conference stay, the strongest case is proximity between rooms, Event Centre, dining and the bridge to South Bank. The published 1,440 seat ballroom, pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and 3,500sqm Event Centre give planners a clear starting point. The booking risk is not the concept; it is availability and terms. Request the room block, event space, arrival pattern and billing rules together, then wait for a confirmed proposal before announcing the accommodation plan.
