Responsible gambling for Queensland casino visits

This site is about booking a business stay at The Star Grand Brisbane, not online gambling or casino play. The Star Brisbane is a physical venue in the Queen’s Wharf precinct. If casino access comes up during a work trip, the practical points are age, ID, Queensland regulation, self-exclusion and where to get help.

Casino access is 18+ and in person

The Star Brisbane sits within the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct. Its casino is a physical venue only. Australia bans online casino play under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, and this website does not provide, arrange or link to online gambling.

The published entry rule is direct: “Guests must be aged 18 years or over to enter the Casino.” Joining The Star Club also requires being 18+ and providing valid photo ID. If a work group includes younger staff, graduates or family members, do not plan any part of the stay around casino access.

For a plain description of the venue, read the casino, factually. For the business-stay angle, the relevant pages are still rooms, meetings and events and the practical full review. The booking request desk is for hotel stays, delegate accommodation and work-trip logistics.

Queensland regulator and help services

Queensland’s liquor and gambling regulator is the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, Department of Justice. OLGR says it regulates all four Queensland casinos. Its list names The Star Brisbane as operated by Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd. The key law named in the published material is the Casino Control Act 1982, amended in March 2024.

For official regulatory information, use the Queensland Government’s OLGR pages at justice.qld.gov.au. For venue information, use the official Brisbane site at star.com.au/brisbane. This site is independent of The Star, Destination Brisbane Consortium and the regulator.

Gambling Help Queensland publishes the Gambling Helpline as 1800 858 858 and says it is available 24/7. If gambling is causing stress, debt, secrecy, conflict, missed work or difficulty stopping, use that service rather than a hotel-booking channel.

Self-exclusion in Queensland

Queensland publishes a formal gambling self-exclusion process. At the venue, ask for the Customer Liaison Officer or a self-exclusion assistant. The process requires completing a self-exclusion notice, Form 3A, with a recent photo. A self-exclusion order, Form 3B, is then issued. The published process says it takes effect after a 24-hour cooling-off period.

Self-exclusion can also be arranged through a Gambling Help Queensland counsellor. OLGR also states that casino operators must notify other casino operators about people they exclude. That is a regulatory process, not a hotel-booking request.

If you are organising travel for another person, do not try to manage their gambling risk through room allocation, diary pressure or group plans. Use the official support pathway. If you are organising a conference week or team stay, keep the brief on accommodation, arrivals, meeting times and invoices. The booking desk can help with those stay details through request a business stay.

Signs to take seriously on a work trip

Gambling harm can show up during travel as well as at home. Practical warning signs include spending longer than planned in gaming areas, returning repeatedly after meetings, hiding time away from colleagues, borrowing money, using business-trip downtime to chase losses, or seeming distressed about spending. Problems can also appear after the trip, through unexplained expenses or conflict about reimbursements.

For managers and assistants, the safe response is procedural rather than personal. Keep records for travel and accommodation. Separate entertainment from required work activity. Do not include casino attendance in a mandatory itinerary. If someone asks for help, point them to Gambling Help Queensland and the venue’s self-exclusion process.

For travellers, the same rule applies: the stay can be planned around sleep, meetings, transport and a client dinner. If you want a non-gaming itinerary, use 24 hours in Brisbane or the Sky Deck and dining for a practical plan.

Request a business stay

Use the request form to ask for business-stay dates, room needs and meeting logistics; do not use it for casino access or gambling support.

How this site earns · How a request works

Commercially, it is simple: a confirmed stay that began as a request on this site earns us a commission from the hotel or the booking partner. The traveller, or the employer, pays the hotel's rate and nothing to us.
