Returning traveller guide
From Treasury Brisbane to The Star Brisbane
If your last Brisbane work trip was built around Treasury Brisbane, the main change is simple: the casino has closed and gaming moved to Queen’s Wharf. The Star Brisbane now sits within the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct, with The Star Grand hotel, the Sky Deck, event spaces and the Neville Bonner Bridge changing how you plan a CBD stay.

What changed in August 2024
Treasury Brisbane casino closed at midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024. The Star’s ASX quarterly on 29 October 2024 also stated that Treasury Brisbane Casino closed on Sunday 25 August 2024, permanently. For a returning traveller, this means you should not plan a work stay, client dinner or evening around Treasury as an operating casino.
The staged opening of The Star Brisbane commenced on Thursday 29 August 2024 at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane. Day One included the Neville Bonner Bridge, the Sky Deck viewing platform from 5pm, The Star Grand with first guests from 10am, the Event Centre, Level 5 and Level 6 venues, Sokyo, the Main Casino Floor and Premium Gaming Rooms. The gaming floors opened from 2pm.
The business-travel change is less about a name swap and more about the centre of gravity moving along William Street into the Queen’s Wharf precinct. The Star Grand is the hotel attached to this new arrangement, with 340 rooms. For room categories, check the site’s rooms guide. For a wider inspection of arrival, dining and work-stay trade-offs, use the full review.
Where Treasury fits now
The Treasury Brisbane hotel has separate wording from the former casino. In August 2024, The Star’s wording said the Treasury Brisbane hotel would remain open. Later Queen’s Wharf material lists Treasury Hotel as “coming soon”. No opening date or operator is published in the facts available for this guide.
That distinction matters when you are returning to Brisbane and trying to re-use an old travel pattern. The casino at Treasury is closed. The Treasury Hotel is “coming soon” with no date. If a third-party listing still treats Treasury Brisbane as a live casino option, do not use it as the basis for a business itinerary.
The Treasury Hotel and Car Park are also part of Stage 2 of The Star’s JVP transaction, with ASX material stating an expected 2H CY2026 timing and no later than 31 March 2027. That is transaction wording, not a guest opening date for the hotel. For a practical CBD stay now, base the accommodation request on The Star Grand or another confirmed hotel, not on an unpublished Treasury Hotel reopening plan.
What Queen’s Wharf adds to a work trip
Queen’s Wharf changes the route map for a Brisbane visit. The official address for The Star Brisbane is 33 William Street, Brisbane City, Queensland 4000. The precinct includes the Neville Bonner Bridge, a pedestrian bridge connecting South Bank to the Queen’s Wharf precinct and The Star’s The Terrace on Level 4. It opened with the first phase on 29 August 2024 and is named after the first Indigenous parliamentarian.
The Star Grand is the main hotel fact for this site’s business-stay purpose: 340 rooms, with published categories including City King Room, City Accessible Room, City Twin Room, River King Room and River Accessible Room, plus published suite categories. Check-in is published as 3:00 PM and check-out as 11:00 AM, with express check-out on request. Valet access is via the porte cochere at 33 William Street.
For meetings, the published Event Centre details include a 1,440 seat ballroom with pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and views to the Story Bridge. The opening release also describes a 3,500sqm Event Centre. The events page names Isoletto Pool Club, Sky Deck and Leisure Deck as event venues. If you are building a group stay around a conference or internal session, see meetings and events before you send dates.
Dinner, transport and the first evening back
The Sky Deck is the obvious new reference point for a returning traveller. The Star publishes it as 100 metres above the CBD, with Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu. Published Sky Deck hours are Monday to Thursday 6:30am–10:30pm, Friday to Saturday 6:30am–midnight and Sunday 6:30am–10:30pm, with weather dependence noted. For a client dinner, treat those hours as planning inputs and confirm directly on the official site before you commit guests.
The restaurant mix has also changed from the old Treasury pattern. Published names include Sokyo, Aloria, Cucina Regina, Black Hide Steak & Seafood by Gambaro, Dark Shepherd, Azteca, LÚC LẮC, Pompette, Babblers, Fat Noodle and Food Quarter. Some listings publish cuisine; some do not. The practical dining plan is covered separately in the Sky Deck and dining guide.
Transport planning should be updated too. The precinct site publishes Roma Street, Central and South Brisbane stations as within walking distance, Brisbane’s Uptown bus hub as a short walk, North Quay ferry stop or terminal as a short walk, and the Bicentennial Bikeway with end-of-ride facilities. Airport distance and time are not published in the facts for this guide. For a flight arrival, use airport and Airtrain notes and check official timetables.
Ownership and operation, stated plainly
For a booking decision, separate the precinct owner from the casino operator. Destination Brisbane Consortium is owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited and Far East Consortium International Limited since 31 March 2026. The Star continues as casino operator under the DBC Casino Management Agreement for a fixed annual fee of $18 million payable monthly plus performance incentive fees from 1 April 2026.
The Star Entertainment Group’s own material says it operates The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane. The Queensland regulator lists The Star Brisbane as operated by Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd. The star.com.au/brisbane footer names The Star Entertainment Brisbane Operations Pty Ltd ABN 98 608 159 173 of 33 William Street, Brisbane QLD 4000.
Those corporate lines do not change the traveller’s immediate task: request the right room, confirm the dates, check meeting requirements and use the official venue pages for live operating details. The official Brisbane site is star.com.au/brisbane, and the precinct site is queenswharfbrisbane.com.au.
A practical reset for returning travellers
If you used to say “book Treasury” as shorthand for a Brisbane CBD stay, change that instruction. Ask for The Star Grand Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf if you want the hotel within The Star Brisbane precinct. Include arrival time, check-out needs, room category preference, accessibility requirements and whether the trip is linked to an event at the Event Centre.
If you are travelling with colleagues, avoid assuming that old meeting points still make sense. Use Queen’s Wharf, the Neville Bonner Bridge, The Terrace and Sky Deck as the new wayfinding references. For a short trip, the site’s 24 hours in Brisbane plan shows how to place meetings, a river walk, dinner and early departure into one work cycle without relying on the former Treasury casino.
The casino is now a physical venue at The Star Brisbane, not an online service. Australia bans online casino play, and this site does not provide gambling access. If your trip is for accommodation, meetings or dining, keep the booking request focused on those elements. For casino-specific facts, use the casino, factually.
