Casino facts
The Star Brisbane casino, stated plainly
The casino is part of The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf, but this site is written for business stays at The Star Grand. Use this page to understand who operates the venue, what changed when Treasury Brisbane closed, and the entry rules that matter if the casino floor is part of your itinerary.

Home / The casino, factually
What the casino is, and what this guide is not
The Star Brisbane is a physical casino venue within the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct. It is not an online casino, and this website does not provide or enable casino play. Australia bans online casino play under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, so any reference here is to the on-site venue only.
For business travellers, the practical booking question is usually the hotel, the meeting schedule, the client dinner and the transfer plan. The Star Grand hotel has 340 rooms, and this site’s booking desk is set up around work stays rather than casino visits. For room categories and what to request for a work trip, use the rooms page. For a broader stay assessment, read the full review.
The casino page on the official site is at star.com.au/brisbane/casino. The official opening-hours page says “The Star Brisbane operates 24/7*” and closes “for a short time on Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day”; the detailed opening-hours page could not be read through the checking proxy, so check the official site before relying on a specific holiday schedule.
Operator, owner and regulator
Use the official wording carefully because the ownership and management position changed after opening. Destination Brisbane Consortium is owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited and Far East Consortium International Limited since 31 March 2026. The Star Entertainment Group continues as casino operator under the DBC Casino Management Agreement for a fixed annual fee of $18 million payable monthly plus performance incentive fees from 1 April 2026.
The Star Brisbane footer identifies “The Star Entertainment Brisbane Operations Pty Ltd ABN 98 608 159 173 of 33 William Street, Brisbane QLD 4000”. The Queensland regulator lists “The Star Brisbane, operated by Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd”. The Star Entertainment Group’s own about page says it “operates The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane”.
The regulator is the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, Department of Justice. OLGR describes itself as “the liquor and gambling regulator for Queensland” and says it regulates all of Queensland’s casinos. The relevant law named in the facts is the Casino Control Act 1982, amended March 2024. For the ownership timeline in more detail, see the note on who runs The Star Brisbane now.
Entry rules and published casino details
The published entry rule is direct: “Guests must be aged 18 years or over to enter the Casino.” The Star Club information also says membership is 18+ with valid photo ID. If the casino is relevant to your group, brief delegates that ID may be required and that under-18s cannot enter the casino area.
The Star Brisbane does not publish every operating detail that some travellers may expect. A dress standard was not found during checks: the dress-standard and terms-of-entry URLs returned 404. The resort’s own pages also do not publish a table or machine count. The facts available describe an “open-plan casino floor” with “expansive balconies”, and the opening release says the gaming floors comprise “just five per cent of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct”.
The published timeline says the staged opening of The Star Brisbane commenced on 29 August 2024. On day one, Levels 5–6 included LiveWire, Sports Bar, Fat Noodle, Food Quarter, Cherry, the Main Casino Floor and Premium Gaming Rooms; gaming floors opened at 2pm. Star Poker Brisbane is referenced with daily cash games. This site records those points as venue facts only and does not recommend gambling as an activity.
What changed from Treasury Brisbane
Treasury Brisbane casino closed at midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024. ASX wording on 29 October 2024 also states that “Treasury Brisbane Casino closed on Sunday 25 August 2024” permanently. Gaming then moved to The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf, where the staged opening began on 29 August 2024.
Do not treat older listings for Treasury Brisbane casino as current. For a business trip now, the relevant casino venue is The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf. The Treasury Hotel is “coming soon” with no date, according to the precinct listing. Where a booking involves accommodation, confirm the actual hotel, address and check-in point rather than relying on legacy Treasury references.
The shift also changed the practical map for a CBD visit. The Star Grand uses 33 William Street, Brisbane City, Queensland 4000, and valet is via the porte cochere at 33 William Street. For precinct context, including the Neville Bonner Bridge and the riverfront layout, use the Queen’s Wharf precinct. For the fuller changeover timeline, see from Treasury to The Star.
Planning a work stay around the venue
If your trip is for meetings, keep the casino out of the critical path unless it is specifically relevant to your company policy or delegate access. Book the room type, arrival time, event space and dinner plan first. The Star Brisbane publishes an Event Centre with a “1,440 seat ballroom with pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and views to the Story Bridge”, and the opening release describes a “3,500sqm Event Centre boasting the city’s largest hotel ballroom”. Use the meetings and events page if your stay sits around a conference or board programme.
For client hosting, the published Sky Deck venues may be more useful than the casino floor. The Sky Deck is described as 100 metres above the CBD, with Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu, and its public hours are published by day on the official site. A work itinerary might place the formal meeting first, then dinner or a drink on the Sky Deck, subject to availability and weather. The dining guide covers that planning in the Sky Deck and dining.
For responsible-gambling information, use the Queensland support and regulator resources linked from this site’s responsible gambling page. For hotel contacts, check the official site; no verified venue phone number is used here.
