Ownership note

Who runs The Star Brisbane now?

The short version for a business booking is simple: you still book The Star Grand Brisbane as the hotel at Queen’s Wharf, and the guest-facing stay does not change because of the ownership transaction. The ownership and operating structure behind the resort has changed, but the published hotel, event and casino arrangements remain the reference points for travellers.

The current ownership and operator position

As checked against the published material in the facts file, The Star Brisbane sits within the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct. The precinct site footer states: “Copyright © 2026 Destination Brisbane Consortium”. The official Star Brisbane site footer identifies “The Star Entertainment Brisbane Operations Pty Ltd ABN 98 608 159 173 of 33 William Street, Brisbane QLD 4000”. The Queensland regulator, the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, lists “The Star Brisbane, operated by Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd”.

The transaction point is the part that can make the wording look untidy. The Star Entertainment Group says it “operates The Star Brisbane at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane” and that it entered a binding agreement in August 2025 to sell its 50% equity interest in the Destination Brisbane Consortium. The ASX announcement dated 1 April 2026 states that The Star completed Stage 1 by disposing of its interest in DBC “to the Joint Venture Partners” — Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited and Far East Consortium International Limited.

Use this working wording for a booking note: DBC owned by CTFE/FEC since 31 March 2026; The Star as manager/operator for a fee. More fully, The Star continues as casino operator under the DBC Casino Management Agreement for “a fixed annual fee of $18 million payable monthly” plus performance incentive fees from 1 April 2026. That is the ownership and operator position this site uses, without adding forecasts.

What changes for a hotel guest

For a traveller booking The Star Grand, nothing in the published facts changes the practical stay. The hotel remains The Star Grand Brisbane at The Star Brisbane, Queen’s Wharf Brisbane. The official hotel page publishes the room count as “340 beautifully appointed rooms”; the opening release also referred to “340 hotel rooms including four penthouses”. Room categories published for the hotel include City King Room, City Accessible Room, City Twin Room, River King Room and River Accessible Room, with suites also published.

For a work trip, the booking questions are the same as before: dates, room type, arrival pattern, early meeting needs and whether rooms need to sit near an event booking. The published check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM, with express check-out on request. Valet is via the porte cochere at 33 William Street.

If you need a plain hotel view rather than the corporate structure, start with the full review or the rooms page. Those pages deal with the stay itself, not the ownership transaction. For official hotel material, use star.com.au/brisbane; for the precinct, use queenswharfbrisbane.com.au.

What changes for meetings and events

The published event spaces remain the relevant facts for a corporate planner. The Event Centre is described as a “1,440 seat ballroom with pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and views to the Story Bridge” on the DBC opening-date page. The opening release also refers to a “3,500sqm Event Centre boasting the city’s largest hotel ballroom”. The events page names Isoletto Pool Club, Sky Deck and Leisure Deck as event venues.

Those details matter more to a delegate-room block than the shareholding behind the precinct. If you are placing people around a conference week, ask for room availability at The Star Grand, confirm whether your event space is already contracted directly with the venue, and state any arrival waves. If a group dinner is being planned, the Sky Deck is a useful published reference point, with Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu named as venues and Sky Deck hours published by the resort.

For event-specific reading, use meetings and events. For a dinner or client-hosting plan, use the Sky Deck and dining. This site does not publish venue phone numbers because none are verified in the facts file; use the official site for direct contact routes.

The casino and Treasury context

The casino should be treated as a physical venue within the precinct, not as something this site offers. Australia bans online casino play, and this site does not provide or link to online casino play. The published regulator wording is that The Star Brisbane is operated by Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd. The Star continues as manager/operator for a fee under the DBC Casino Management Agreement.

The Treasury Brisbane casino is no longer operating. The published timeline states that Treasury Brisbane casino closed on 25 August 2024, with gaming moving to Queen’s Wharf. If you are reconciling older travel notes or internal supplier lists, remove Treasury Brisbane casino as an active venue. The Treasury Hotel is “coming soon” with no date, where relevant to future accommodation planning.

For a more detailed but still factual treatment, see the casino, factually and from Treasury to The Star. The key booking point remains unchanged: a business traveller is booking a room, meeting access and location at Queen’s Wharf, not an ownership position.

How to brief a booking desk

Keep the brief operational. Give the travel dates, number of rooms, preferred published room categories, arrival and departure times, and whether the stay connects to an event at The Star Brisbane. If guests need to move between the airport, the CBD and Queen’s Wharf, use official transport timetables for the day of travel; the resort facts do not publish an airport distance or time.

If the trip includes a client dinner, state whether you are aiming for Sky Deck venues or another named restaurant from the resort’s published dining list. If the trip is tied to a ballroom event, include the event name and the contracted organiser contact if your company has one. Do not assume that ownership wording affects room allocation, invoices or cancellation terms; those remain matters for the hotel or booking partner to confirm.

If you want the broader trip frame, use 24 hours in Brisbane for a short work stay, or return to the home review. For independence and commercial terms, see how this site earns.

How this site earns · How a request works

Commercially, it is simple: a confirmed stay that began as a request on this site earns us a commission from the hotel or the booking partner. The traveller, or the employer, pays the hotel's rate and nothing to us.
